i had a baby blue t-bird with a 430v8
drove the pacific coast highway and it sure was great
me and al lolled on the baby blue nagahyde
steering her easy – just a going for a ride
it was nineteen sixty-three in a 59 T-bird
we were just two guys who had gotten the word
the army liked our looks we were rated 1-a
just need a little time to make a getaway
we cashed out our jobs and took a ride
hit a lick for mexico and damn near cried
theres reasons to drive and reasons to sit
many of them reasons we ain’t got yet
theres mexican stars and mexican bars
theres little donkey carts and hot rod cars
we talked about the girls who turned us out
and the kept on churning the long road south
i never hope to die in the hate of the day
with a bad jungle fever and skin that’s gone grey
and your body in a puddle down on the ground
cryin for your lost love and nobody around
it was the kerouacian adventure we always planned
looking for a pathway to a promised land
we spent our pesos wild and free
and limped on back to Albuquerque
