laguna beach
its been 32 years since i smelled
the acrid air of the kelpie pacific sea there
its been too long since i met the rolling wave
and watched the mystical sun set into a red horizon
i once walked the beach as the twilight faded
and watched the gossamer fog form midair
and the aroma of the the briny ebb tide
wafted lazy through the air and in my mind
only the sparkle of the chosen were there
in their clifftop rambles of cabinry
only the music of dim tuned radios
vibrated in wavering columns from above
i saw my face in the brackish tidepool
and saw the scrawl of natures finger there
i imagined the ghosts of long dead mariners
looking from the tide pools dark shroud
the chill of the ocean air at once rushed thru me
and i turned away from the rushing surf
and set about the steep ascent up the cliffs
casting a final glance at the hazy horizon
