Song to the Northern Woman

The sun shines in my heart
it goes raying into dark places
                     illuminating the recesses
            where i hid my dreams

I can’t notice the oft sung remorse

the song lofting into the blue sky
                    disappears in flashes of smiles
            sent over the fleshless distance

You bent forward toward my breathing
    and sensing a pulse
                    you shook my arm
            and i opened my eyes

Careless ease is often overlooked these times
    we are tested in forbearance
                    the drape of confidence
            shrouds the scars of yesterdays

As you sleep in the night mist
and you raise your arm into the dark air
                    against the rush of time
sleep the sweet dreams of my caring.
